The image shows the hijacked Lufthansa plane "Landshut" in Dubai where it stood alone on the fringes of the airport for two days waiting to be refuelled. The zoom shot was taken from the Dubai airport tower.

«Space Surrogate I (Dubai)»

A solitary airplane stands alone in the desert. Nothing seems to be happening. Hot air, shimmering like a mirage, is the only perceivable sign of the passage of time.
The «film» shows the hijacked plane «Landshut» 1977 in Dubai where it was waiting for 48 hours with 86 hostages on board before it flew to Mogadishu. Interestingly there are almost no film or TV sequences left of this phase in Dubai. The seemingly real «hot» film sequence was actually digitally produced from a single still picture.
