Nan Hoover
«Performance»
The light performance shown here was a controversial contribution to the 'Women in Art 1877-1977' festival staged in Berlin's Schloss Charlottenburg. Nan Hoover's performances almost always work with light/shadow and the line as the contour of a two-dimensional body, like in this example. Concentration and the slowness of movement are focal – leading to accusations of 'male' abstraction being voiced by radical feminists during the festival.
