 Jochen Gerz
«Warning: Art Corrupts»

Gerz put up the sentence 'Attenzione l'Arte Corrompe' ('Warning; Art Corrupts'), sometimes in poster form, sometimes as a small card, around various European cities in the politically explosive year 1968. Thus, even Michelangelo's David in Florence was exposed to Jochen Gerz' critical commentary. Although one of Jochen Gerz' earliest works, his action foreshadows a number of aspects that would later emerge, such as the interconnection of text and image, criticism of spaces dedicated to art, intervention in the public domain.
