«The Video Pioneer – Six Tales of Urban Renovation»

This video chronicles the renovation of the Berlin district of Charlottenburg. The chronicler, Gerd Conradt, stationed himself in Klaussener Platz in 1973 and produced a documentation of residents' fight to prevent their homes from being demolished. People from the area are presented in six ‘tales'. Developments in the district were recorded over a period of ten years. Although the focus is on people, the tape also documents the history of the video medium. The early sequences were filmed on b/w Japan Standard and, using new techniques, were amalgamated in with later material. The author himself links the stories, appearing in the clothes of his model, Dziga Vertov, to register his claim to artistic status.
