Born 1953; studies Art, Philosophy and Art education at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and the Ruhr University of Bochum, graduates as art teacher in 1981; 1987 Ph. D. in Art History at the Ruhr University of Bochum; 1998 Habilitation at the Free University of Berlin; 1981–1986 scientific collaborator for the research field of the German Research Society (DFG) »Knowledge and Society in the 19th century« at the Ruhr University of Bochum; 1988–1990 editor of for educational newsletters of the Funkkolleg »Modern Art« at the German Institute for Remote Studies; 1990-1995 scientific collaborator at the Department of Art History, Free University of Berlin; 1998 Visiting Professor at the Department of Art History, Johann Wolfgang Goethe University, Frankfurt am Main; since 1999 Professor at the Academy of Fine Arts Dresden; Editor of publications including «Minimal Art, eine kritische Retrospektive» (1995); «Jeff Wall. Szenarien im Bildraum der Wirklichkeit» (1997); «Kunst/Kino» (2001); «Lawrence Weiner» (2004); lives in Berlin.
