Max Klinger
* 1898 in Leipzig (D)—died 1956 in Großjena (D);
Very early Klinger already succeeded as a graphic artist. He established with etching cycles, for example »Paraphrase über den Fund eines Handschuhs« in 1881.Ambitions of a room art brought him to the painting and the sculpture. Klinger is considered to be one of the most important representatives of coloured sculpture. About 1900 his sculptures »Die neue Salome«, »Kassandra« und »Beethoven« are considered to be main works of polycromic sculptures. Klinger´s opinionated symolic picture language, especially in his etchings made him beeing a precursor of the surrealism.
