 Christian Marclay

*1955 in San Rafael, California (USA) and grew up in Geneva; 1975–80 studied Fine Art at the École Supérieur d’Art Visuel, Geneva, at the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston and at Cooper Union in New York City. Christian Marclay is a visual artist and composer whose work explores the juxtaposition between sound recording, photography, video and film. As performer and sound artist, ‹Art DJ›, he has been experimenting, composing and performing with mix and scratching techniques combining the most diverse cultural fields. Using phonograph records and turntables since 1979 he creates his unique "theater of found sound." Marclay has collaborated with musicians such as John Zorn, Elliott Sharp, Fred Frith, Zeena Parkins, Shelley Hirsh, Christian Wolff, Butch Morris, Otomo Yoshihide, Arto Lindsay, and Sonic Youth among many others. Lives in New York City (USA).
