 Fernand Léger

*1881 in Argentan, Normandie (F)—died 1955 in Gif-sur-Yvette (F); architecture apprenticeship in Caen, and later studies unofficially at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. As a painter he influenced cubism, constructivism, and the modern commercial poster and other types of applied art. Léger's work was influenced by his experiences in World War I and the effects of industrialization.
