Norman Jewison
born 1926 in Toronto, Ontario; studied music at the Royal Conservatory; studied theatre at Malvern Collegiate Institute, Toronto; served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II; earned a BA at Victoria College, University of Toronto in 1950; leading director of TV programs for the CBC in Toronto (1952-1958); directed musical-variety shows for CBC in New York (1958-1961); turned to feature films in the 1960s and achieved recognition for «The Cincinnati Kid» (1965) and «In the Heat of the Night» (1967).
