 Gustav Metzger

Studies Art at the Cambridge School of Art in London. 1959 in London first performance of autodestructive art and in 1960 «Manifesto of Autodestructive Art.» Metzger uses acid on nylon for some actions and experiments with heated liquid crystals on thin glass sheets which he then projects as giant, meandering images on screens. This technique is later employed by rock bands such as «The Who» or «Cream» for their psychodelic stage shows. In 1966 he organized the international «Destruction in Art Symposium» (DIAS) in London with artists from the Viennes Actionists, Fluxus, with poets, musicians and psychologists who discussed the social relevance of autodestructive art (a.o. with John Lennon and Yoko Ono).
