Paul Feyerabend
b 1924 in Vienna (A)—died 1994 in Geneva (CH). Feyerabend studied history, sociology, physics, mathematics and astronomy; he obtained a Ph.D. in philosophy in 1951. He resided at the London School of Economics in the circle of Karl Popper. In 1955 he taught in Bristol (GB). He was a visiting professor at the University of California in Berkley (USA) and received a permanent position there in 1959. In the 1960s and 1970s, Feyerabend was well-known in philosophical circles and finally taught at the ETH in Zurich (CH). His most important publications are: «Against Method» (1975), «Science in a Free Society» (1978), «Science as an Art» (1984), and «Three Dialogues on Knowledge» and «Beyond Reason» (1991).
